‘Value for money’ quality label

The information on a product's packaging is not always completely accurate. So an accredited quality label that guarantees you value for money is a welcome development. In the UK market, we chose to apply for the CHSA's Soft Tissue Standard.

CHSA stands for ‘the Cleaning and Hygiene Suppliers Association’, which represents more than 200 manufacturers and distributors in the United Kingdom. This is the leading trade association for suppliers in the cleaning and hygiene industry. The CHSA has taken the initiative of introducing an accredited standard for soft tissue products that distinguishes between honest and dishonest products. The reason for this initiative was that increased price competition often resulted in dubious practices.

Beat the cheats!
Why did Van Houtum decide to join the CHSA?
Robert Didden, Sales Manager Export: ‘We wanted a quality label that guaranteed the ‘value for money’ nature of our products. This is essential in the English market. Paper producers here regularly take liberties with paper specifications. For example, the sizes, grammage and quantity. Creative but dubious solutions are used to keep the cost price low... The end result is that the end-user is cheated: the content is different from the information on the packaging.’

Van Houtum has offered its own product guarantee for many years. Guus Bruijstens, Van Houtum's Product Manager, elaborates: ‘That guarantee is part of our Satino service concept. It guarantees that our Satino products are made in compliance with the paper specifications. The CHSA is a highly regarded institution that gives our own guarantee extra lustre. An independent audit team takes random samples every month to monitor the members'  continued compliance with the agreement.’

Het CHSA-logoUndisputed quality label
The CHSA Accreditation label is not just an independent quality label, it also enhances the corporate image of companies active in the sector. ‘For example, it may just sway the decision your way in tender procedures’ says Robert Didden. ‘Certain clients have an overriding preference for CHSA compliance.’
‘I expect that this will be a powerful attention-getter for the ISSA/Interclean exhibition,’ Guus Bruijstens adds. ‘In addition to all the other innovations, we will announce that Van Houtum' s application was officially accepted by the  CHSA in January. We see this as strong confirmation of our quality and dependability. When I see all the dubious practices that take place in the area of paper specifications, particularly in Southern Europe, this will be a good weapon to help our cause.’
